Notably, people over 60 represent the fastest growing segment of hosts, the people listing their homes for rent. It has become a popular way to supplement their income during their retirement years.

Depending on location, nightly and weekly rentals can fetch some hosts upwards of $20,000 per year. Many property owners are investing in their homes to make them more attractive to renters, and consider this their best chance to finance the lifestyle they have come to expect in retirement.
